STITCHES AND CRAFT SHOW

The Craft show was a wonderful success.  Thank you to all who helped by painting items for sale and/or manning the stall.  We sold Christmas decorations as we usually do but we decorated the back of the stall with member's projects.  It did look pretty (well I thought so!) and we sold all our decorations!  Some of our out-of-towners painted items and posted them in.  Thank you so much for that, the pieces were beautiful and assured us that we were part of a larger community.   An interesting note: quite a few people came to the stall looking for a teacher.  They had painted in the past and wanted to pick it up again.  We helped with our teacher's list but so far they have not decided to join our ranks, but maybe there is going to be turn in the craft and we will pick up members again.

 

We had a lovely visit by Wendy Donoghue from Grafton who helped with the stall for two days.  I am told they had a lot of fun on those days....  Thanks Wendy.

 

Our raffle was won by Sandra Hundloe of Chapel Hill and will be delivered to her soon.

This gorgeous painting was on a topper for a bottle to give filled with goodies.  Faye painted it on a circle of calico and attached to the top of the bottle with a lovely red ribbon

 We were asked at the last minute to put an entry into the Woman's Weekly Challenge.  Below is our offering.  We didn't win first prize????? but each entry received $150.00 worth of books from the Woman's Weekly.  This consisted of three books, one on knitting and two very large tombs on cooking.  All lovely books.  We decided that three names of all who helped at the show would be drawn to receive the books.  Those details will be in our next newsletter.

 

We were asked to write in 50 words or less the inspiration for our piece.  Gum flowers and wattle were chosen being Australian flowers, the title was in green and gold, again Australian colours, the cupcake was in reference to their celebration with a 'High Tea', and the images around the cupcake are covers of Woman's Weekly from 1935 to 2013. 

 

So if you came to the show I hope you had a great time and hope to see you again next year.  Remember we will be back in March with a larger stand and lessons.

MEETING 6TH JULY

 

We had a very enjoyable meeting this month.  Ten of us attended and Faye lead us through a charming project - painting fairies on styrene foam (those trays under fruit and vegetables from the supermarket).  We traced an outline on the tray, cut it out using a craft knife, painted a fairy and added bling and glitz to our hearts content.  We kept one for ourselves and gave the others to the October guild stall to sell.  While everyone was quietly tracing or cutting the tray we had out meeting.  Unfortunately Lore Barratt had to cancel her class in August and our bus trip to Tyalgum has had to be deferred.  We will make another date for that soon.  We discussed asking other teachers to come next year so we hope to get some names in the hat soon.  Our newsletter was a little slim last month but I hope some members will give me some news items for the next paper coming out in September.  Please help with this as getting content is the hardest part of putting the newsletter together.  We would love to hear from you.

 

Next month we are having a soup and slice day.  Members are bringing a soup (kept hot in slow cookers) bread, and a sweet slice to share for lunch.  If you want to come along please ring myself or Gail to let us know how many to cater for.  The project for the day will be something for yourself, an item for our October craft show or a Memory Box.  So bring your painting kit and join us in a friendship day.

JUNE MEETING

Another good meeting this month.  Not very many of us there but we had good discussions and our AGM.  The Committee renominated and were voted back in.  We still need a Newsletter Editor and an assistant for Gail with workshops and projects.

 

We also brought in lunch which was lovely fish and chips...yum!  Not good for the waist but comfort food in this weather.  Gail was away caravanning so we didn't get an Event's Report but we are definitely having Lore Barratt in August, we just have to confirm the project.

Faye painted these little fairies on cardstock, cut them out, then sealed them between laminating sheets.  She then drew in the wings using glitter and adhering bling, then cut around the wings.  A great effect. 



 

For these little angels, Faye cut the shapes out of styrene foam trays and painted them in.  This is going to be our project in July.  See Coming Projects in ribbon across top of page for details.

Again Faye has surprised us with her recycling skills.  This is a spice bottle with a circle of calico (spritzed with paint to colour) attached under the lid.  The lid is coloured and a foam ball added for the head.  The wings are butterfly wings Faye bought in a shop.  Flowers, ribbon and glitter are added to finish the project.

This was a circle of fabric painted with a Christmas theme and attached to a small bottle with ribbon.  Great to fill with sweets as a gift.

This was a kit Faye had bought.  The star is cut from several pieces of fabric and bonded together.  The Santa face was an MDF cut-out painted to a pattern 

Faye suggested the star or Santa could be cut from one of these trays.
 

  So that was our meeting for June.  Please come along if you can as we do have some good discussions and little projects each month.


These are a couple of Memory Boxes painted recently by our members.

 

This delightful box was painted by Faye.  It was already decorated with the flower and hummingbird and Faye added the gorgeous fairy and highlighted the butterfly so it looked as though it was sitting on the fairy's skirt.  How clever was that!

 

Vi painted this wonderful image and her eye for detail is perfect.
