Memory Boxes

Recently when we had a call on boxes I was a bit short on supply so had to paint a few quickly.  I chose this simple pattern of the same bear dressed differently onto nesting boxes.  It is good to have a few quick patterns on hand for this very occasion.

Don't Forget - May Workshop

Just a reminder, Donna May is giving us a Brush in a Rush on the first Saturday in May.  Check the requirements list if you are coming and if you would like to book in, see details under 'Projects'.  Looking forward to seeing you there.

Below is the Khokhloma project painted on gold card using guoache which is an opaque water colour.

Wendy D's. Craft Group

Wendy Donoghue and friends meet each Friday for a craft day.  They each do something different and enjoy the friendship of the day.  These are some of the projects they have worked on.
This is a card coloured with inks.

Beautiful Canvases using No More Gaps as a resist and coloured with inks.  The colours are very vibrant!

Another cute card using the inks.

Wendy's groups is obviously very productive!  I am sure their time together is very rewarding in many ways.

If you belong to a friendship group or meet with a friend or two to paint, send in some information and pictures so we all can see what you accomplish.  Thanks Wendy for this article.

Member's Project

This is a canvas using Daley Rowney inks on autumn leaves outlined with gold metallic fine pen.  From us gals down on the Clarence.  Love from Wendy Donoghue.
Yes this is just what we want Wendy, thanks.

Memory Box Photos

I have managed to upload as many photos as I have taken over the time as convenor of the Memory Box Program.  If you go to the button at the top of the page for MB's you will now find you can click into the Photobucket library.

I am hoping that I will be able to do the same for a member's gallery.  I just need content now so members please send me photos of your projects so we can all see.

MEMBER'S PROJECT

Carolyn Heaton sent this image of her latest project.  The design is by Arlene Linton and it looks textural in the photograph doesn't it.  Lovely work Carolyn, thanks for emailing it in.

MEMORY BOXES

At our April meeting we painted Memory Boxes and this lovely little bear below was done by Faye Goddard.  This delightful image was drawn by a lovely and talented friend of mine.  She has several images for you, free, to use on the boxes.  Click here to view Beccy's blog, you will enjoy the trip.

At a previous meeting we painted this bird and music which was printed on sturdy paper.  I trimmed the edges of mine, softened the corners, dusted the edges with blue and glued it to a blue box using a glue stick.  When it was thoroughly dry I sprayed it with satin varnish.  I thought it came up well and I will do another I think.

SHOW AND TELL FOR APRIL

These are two lovely plates (plastic!) painted by Jenny Mayes.  The top one was taught by Judy Minter at one of our workshop days and the bottom is a free pattern from Renee Mullins.  Haven't they come up a treat?  Well done Jenny.

OUR APRIL MEETING

Our April meeting was a small one with only eight of us there, but we all kept busy and had a good discussion.  One of the outcomes was that sadly we cannot host a Paint In this year.  Our membership is down as you know and not enough can come at the changed date.  But the good news is that we will be bringing in tutors for big one day work shops.  There will be more information in our newsletter in June.

OUR HAPPY RAFFLE WINNER

During the Craft Shows we run a raffle to raise funds to purchase boxes for our Memory Box Program.  This show we had a lovely painting of a yellow rose donated by Lorraine Summerville.  Our happy winner is Susan Bryson of Mt Hallen.  Thank you Susan for supporting our charity.

MARCH CRAFT SHOW

Late March was the Stitches and Craft Show at the Convention Centre.  Below is a picture of our stand being manned by Donna (at the teaching table), Judy (behind Deirdre), Deirdre at the table and Gillian, on the first day.  It was a very successful show for us and thank you to Gail and all her helpers for doing such a wonderful job.  The classes were a great success and so popular that they were all booked out and extra places had to be made to accommodate as many as was possible.
